Stabat Mater

Jonathan Byrd is a guitarist and composer known for his sacred works performed in churches. His music is as informed by Bach as it is by Spanish Catholic traditions; his technique references the repertoire of players such as Andres Segovia, Julian Bream, and the more refined flamenco masters. It is a musical prayer.

This Holy Week performance contemplates the grieving Mother of Christ and attempts to express Her agony at the crucifixion.

Jonathan is grateful to Fr Dominic for his support and all donations will go to the upkeep of the church.

“Jonathan’s style reminds me a great deal of the playing of Pablo Casals – an inwardness combined with an incisive edge that calls and takes the listener up into contemplation”

Fr Dominic White, OP.  Prior of Blackfriars Oxford, 2024

Novena of Grace to St Francis Xavier

The annual Novena of Grace in honour of St Francis Xavier starts on Tuesday March 4th and runs until Wednesday March 12th, the anniversary of the canonisation of St Francis Xavier and St Ignatius. We will be praying this novena at every Mass at Farm Street Church.

Novena of Grace to St Francis Xavier

O most kind and loving saint, in union with you I adore the Most Divine Majesty.  The memory of the favours with which God blessed you during life, and of your glory after death, fills me with joy; and I unite with you in offering to Him my humble tribute of thanksgiving and praise.  I implore of you to secure for me, through your powerful intercession, the all-important blessing of living and dying in a state of grace.  I also ask you to obtain the favour I ask in this Novena (here ask the favour you wish to obtain), but if what I ask is not for the greater glory of God or the good of my soul, obtain for me what is most conducive to both.  Amen

O God who was pleased to gather to your Church the peoples of the East by the preaching and miracles of St Francis Xavier, mercifully grant that we, who honour his glorious merits, may also imitate the example of his virtues, through Jesus Christ Our Lord.  Amen

Followed by one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be.
